When we first built our Airstream last year, we decided to not include a dedicated area for our TV or electronics. Instead, we hung our flat panel TV on the wall at the foot of one of the twin beds. We have since gutted the two twin beds and replaced with a sofa where you see the old twin bed below. This made it a more functional space because it allowed for space for built-ins for our TV, sound system and video games.
Here’s a look at the old twin bed. This is the space where the new living area has been built.
The bed has been moved to the front of the trailer. Read about our bedroom remodel here.
The bottom half that is boxed in is hiding the wheelwell. We removed the old plastic cover and built around the exposed insulation with 1/2″ birch plywood. To the left of this will be the area for the other desk. Once it’s completed, I’ll update the post!
We bought a couple of these old locker bins at a local antique shop. These will serve as our underwear drawers. We used to keep our underwear in the top cabinets in a little bin but it made it hard to find what you were looking for. We’d just stick our hand in and pull out whatever we touched. It didn’t always work!
The top of the cabinet is covered in tongue and groove reclaimed oak barnwood. It matches the custom desks in the Airstream. Those can be seen here.
The inside of the shelves are stained a color the coordinate with the floor and reclaimed oak tops. There’s a small lip on the front of the cubbies to keep things from sliding out.
We lost our TV stand (we have one on order) so for the time being, Riley is acting as the stand-in for the TV. 🙂
This is my sweet little Girl Scouts camera I picked up at a shop in Southport, North Carolina.
